"Gang!
This week, I traveled to Los Angeles in search of gallery space for an upcoming group show I'm curating. I found myself in downtown LA's Arts District, and the thought popped into my head that maybe I could pop into the studio of neon pioneer, Lili Lakich...So I called her up and was delighted when she said 'sure'. This was an electric interview...quite literally! Lili had never used Zoom, which is how I've recorded all previous podcasts...so I thought that since I was town it would be interesting if the first in-studio interview I did could be in front of one of her most iconic pieces, 'Blessed Oblivion'...which you can see glowing behind us during the podcast. We spoke about everything from the history of neon art, death threats she received from cutting up her Volvo for use in an art installation...and why it's important for an artist to have three professions.
